Some projects begin with a blank canvas. Others begin with failing masonry, drainage problems, difficult grades, tight access or an outdoor space that simply is not reaching its potential.
Explore selected Granite State Stonescapes projects and see how thoughtful planning, natural materials and hands-on craftsmanship come together.

A finished photograph only shows the final result. Behind every project are decisions about grading, drainage, material selection, access, transitions and how the finished work should relate to the home and landscape. The projects below tell more of that story.
This project began with a blank canvas and a concept sketched on a napkin. Because the property would become an important showcase for Granite State Stonescapes, locally sourced reclaimed materials were selected to create an established Old New England character rather than something that felt newly installed.
The finished environment combined stonework, reclaimed materials, lighting and landscaping into one complete composition.

What started as a retaining-wall rebuild quickly became a serious drainage project. After demolition began, the team discovered a failing perimeter drain and unusually severe groundwater conditions. Granite State responded by installing two dry wells and removing more than 100 yards of material before rebuilding the fieldstone walls.
This is exactly the type of project where the finished stonework tells only part of the story.

The homeowners arrived with an initial concept and gave Granite State creative flexibility to develop the outdoor space. Excavation revealed buried logs that had to be dealt with before construction could continue. Once that challenge was resolved, the outdoor fireplace became the centerpiece of the project, including a custom sunburst detail above the mantel.
Goshen stone, reclaimed granite and directional landscape lighting helped connect the fireplace, patio, steps and pathways into one environment.

The Wolcott Street project proves that a smaller footprint does not necessarily mean an easier project. The backyard had limited working space along with grading and elevation challenges, requiring careful planning.
Natural stone and reclaimed granite were used to create a more functional outdoor space while maintaining a character that feels both distinctly New England and more refined.

This project centered around a natural stone outdoor fireplace set within a wooded property.
Instead of treating the fireplace as a standalone feature, the design incorporated integrated seating and storage, reclaimed granite walls, bluestone surfaces and lighting.

This backyard project centers on a swimming pool surrounded by natural stone and established landscaping. Irregular Bluestone was used around the pool, while the coping was custom cut on-site to create a more tailored transition around the water.
The surrounding trees, planting and pergola give the finished area a private, natural character.
